Tinnitus Management

Initial assessment £60

Tinnitus can be extremely frustrating, and if allowed to proliferate it can overwhelm our sense of wellbeing . Our specialists are experienced in providing therapies to help reduce your tinnitus perception over the long term.

What is tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the perception of ringing, buzzing, hissing, or other sounds inside the ears or head. It is a common condition that affects people in different ways and whilst it's not a disease, it can impact quality of life, causing stress, sleep disturbances, or difficulty concentrating.

Audiologists specialise in evaluating and managing tinnitus to help individuals find relief and improve their overall well-being. Our clinicians are degree qualified and have extensive experience treating patients with various types of tinnitus.

How Is Tinnitus Assessed?

Assessment starts with a relaxed and open conversation with one of our Audiologists. This allows us to understand the nature of your tinnitus and its impact on your daily life. From there, the process includes the following steps:

1. Comprehensive Medical History and Ear Examination
We take a detailed medical history and carefully examine both ears to rule out external ear issues such as earwax buildup.

2. Hearing Test
A hearing test is conducted to measure your hearing sensitivity across a range of pitches and determine if hearing loss is contributing to your tinnitus.

3. Pitch and Loudness Matching
These specialised tests help identify the characteristics of the tinnitus sound, giving us insight into what you are experiencing.

4. Results Discussion and Personalised Planning
Once we’ve gathered enough information, your Audiologist will review the results with you. Together we’ll discuss your goals and develop a tailored plan to address your specific needs.

Lenire Tinnitus Therapy (£3695)

Lenire is a clinically proven treatment device designed to alleviate tinnitus symptoms. It offers a convenient, at-home solution for managing tinnitus under the guidance of a qualified Audiologist. The device uses soothing sounds and gentle electrical stimulation to retrain the brain, helping it focus less on tinnitus. This innovative approach, known as bimodal neuromodulation, targets the same neural pathways involved in chronic pain management, promoting long-term benefits over a 12 week programme.

How it works:

  • Sound Delivery: Bluetooth headphones included with the device play customised audio designed to stimulate the auditory nerve.

  • Tongue Stimulation: A specially designed Tonguetip fits comfortably in the mouth, delivering safe, mild electrical pulses to the tip of the tongue.

  • Controller: A lightweight handheld device allows users to control the timing, intensity, and volume of the treatment. Settings are personalized by an Audiologist to match each patient's unique tinnitus profile.

Each Lenire device is tailored to the individual based on a detailed assessment and conversation about your needs.

Sound Therapy (£2295)

Sound therapy utilises customised ear devices, similar to hearing aids or headphones, to deliver tailored sounds that align loosely with the pitch of your tinnitus. These sounds help redirect the brain’s focus from tinnitus to external stimuli, reducing its prominence and impact on daily life.

How It Works:

  • Partially Masking Tinnitus: The customised sounds programmed by your Audiologist reduce the perception of tinnitus without completely masking it. This "blend" approach helps the brain adapt gradually, often resulting in a sustained reduction in tinnitus awareness over time.

  • Managing Flare Ups: At times when your tinnitus is very loud, white noise, pink noise or a soft noise tailored to your hearing profile provides the brain with neutral or pleasant auditory input. This helps breaks the negative emotional cycle often associated with chronic tinnitus.

  • Encouraging Habituation: With consistent exposure to therapeutic sounds, the brain learns to filter out tinnitus naturally. Over time the tinnitus becomes less noticeable, much like adapting to background noise in a busy street or railway line near your house. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Our sound therapy package lasts 6 months with full support from our Audiologists.
